Outpost 7 upgrade deadline shifts to November 1

Переход на Outpost 7.xIn one of the previous notes we reminded you of Agnitum's decision to stop updates and support for all Outpost versions older than 7.0.3 from October 1, 2010, and urged you to swap for the newest version.

As the deadline comes closer we've been receiving tons of requests to give latecomers another month for consideration and action. So we do! Take a chance to migrate to the latest Outpost version – 7.0.4 before November 1, 2010!

You can upgrade your current Outpost protection to version 7.0.4 (or newer) free of charge and enjoy the benefits of updated protection. In other words, any previously purchased and currently active (i.e. non-expired) license, no matter 1/2/3 year or lifetime, can be applied to Outpost 7.0.4 (or newer) products.

To learn more about Outpost 7, check out How Outpost 7 secures your PC.

Once you've made up your mind just follow this link to download the latest version – 7.0.4. Follow the wizard to complete the upgrade and enjoy your brand-new Internet security.

The migration deadline has been shifted to November 1, 2010. This will be the last call for seamless transition! We strongly advise you act in advance. Please rest assured we do not force you to migrate but highly recommend this measure for the sake of your online safety and up-to-date protection.

How to keep your web surfing secure?

Dear Readers,

Here's one more whitepaper we'd like to share with you, this one touches upon web security and safe surfing tools.

"... We all love the Internet with its amazing opportunities for work and huge range of entertainment for home. More than third of the world’s population is now connected to the Internet. From delivering the latest news to playing videos to facilitating social interaction, the Internet is unrivaled in the wealth of information and opportunities it provides.

Unfortunately, there is a downside to all the great things the Internet offers, and that downside can be pretty nasty. Most of today’s computer threats are spread over the Web, because that’s where most users and most computers spend much of their time, and so it’s important to recognize that there is an inherent risk in using the Internet. From malware‐infested web sites to fraud schemes, it is rife with hidden dangers lying in wait for the user.

In keeping with our mission to provide the best possible protection for computer users, this Agnitum technote describes the technologies built into the latest generation of Outpost software that will protect Internet surfers against these web‐borne threats."

Outpost 7.0: Proactive Protection Highlights

We'd like to bring to your attention a new whitepaper about proactive protection, this time - in Outpost 7 products.

With the growth and sophistication of threats, effective computer security solutions must employ multiple layers of protection to defend against all of today’s risks. Both reactive protection tools (e.g., antivirus, spam and web content filters) and proactive tools (firewall and HIPS) are needed to meet the challenge of security in the 21st century.

OSS7 receives Gold Award from Anti-Malware Test Lab

We are glad to announce that Outpost Security Suite Pro 7.0 has passed Anti-Malware.ru's self-protection tests with flying colors to achieve the Gold Award for Self-Protection. (The English version of the test will be available later this year at http://www.anti-malware-test.com.)

In total, 19 personal antivirus and security suite products were tested. Outpost led the field by resisting all attacks under Windows XP SP3 and 7, proving once again the accuracy and efficiency of its anti-deactivation tools. The majority of competing solutions, including industry leaders McAfee, Trend Micro, PC Tools, Panda and Microsoft, fell behind in the tests, delivering only mediocre or fair results in response to the attacks.

“Outpost 7 achieved perfect scores in system level, process termination, process modification, and driver protection tests under Windows XP and 7,” commented Vitaliy Yanko, Director of Sales & Marketing at Agnitum. “It doesn’t matter how good your security software is if a single targeted attack can disable your entire system protection. So we’ve focused a great deal of our development time on ensuring that Outpost protection can never be invalidated.”

Feel free to download Outpost Security Suite Pro 7, Agnitum's flagship product and leader in self-protection!

Migration to 7.0: dispelling the myths

As we priorly assumed, our announcement of discontinued support for Outpost software older than version 7.0.3 caused numerous questions and a few major misconceptions. Let's try to clarify some aspects of this migration.

First and foremost, any previously purchased and currently active (i.e. non-expired) license, no matter 1/2/3 year or lifetime, can be applied to a newer Outpost version from 7.0.3 onwards.

For instance, if you've been using Outpost Security Suite Pro or Outpost Firewall Pro 6.5 for a year and still have another year left according to the license you obtained, your recommended course of action would be to find the old license key, uninstall your current edition of Outpost, install the latest version Outpost 7.x and introduce the old key to the new software.

By no means we deprive you of your rightfully acquired time of usage, you'll just have to apply the remaining license days (or your license for lifetime use) to the new version – in order to receive all due updates and support after November 1, 2010.

We do not force you to migrate but highly recommend this measure for the sake of your online safety and up-to-date protection.

End of support for Outpost Pro versions older than 7.0

Here's to inform our readers and users that since October 1, 2010 Agnitum will cease technical support and updates for all versions of Outpost Firewall Pro, Outpost Antivirus Pro, and Outpost Security Suite Pro older than v7.0.3.

We urge users with active license to upgrade their Outpost protection to version 7 free of charge and enjoy the benefits of the most up-to-date security.

We have made this decision with your best interests in mind:
  • Older Outpost versions use less sophisticated protection technologies, which makes them less able to reliably detect the latest wave of web-borne threats than Outpost 7.0.3 (7.0.4)
  • Improvements in usability, additional security features, and flexible update options make Outpost 7.0.3 and 7.0.4 more robust, reliable, and secure than earlier versions.
  • Awarded the VirusBulletin VB100 certification and rated “Excellent” by Matousec.com Lab, Outpost 7 has clearly shown it's a trustworthy solution to today’s security threats.
To learn more about Outpost 7, check out How Outpost 7 secures your PC.

We'll do our best to make this transition as smooth as possible and minimize any inconvenience to you:
  • Compatibility with older versions of Windows is not an issue; Outpost 7 solutions support all Windows platforms from 2000 SP4 onwards, both 32-bit and 64-bit versions.
  • If you have an active license for an earlier version, you can upgrade to the appropriate 7.0 product free of charge. Just download Outpost 7 and enter your current license key into the registration screen and you’re all set.
  • If your existing license has expired, you can take advantage of a 40% to 50% discount off the regular price when you renew with Outpost 7!
Remember, after October 1st, 2010, users of older Outpost Pro versions will not receive update services, including antivirus, antispyware, ad and site blocking, firewall rules, and host protection module updates.

Unless your version number is 7.0.3 or higher, follow this link to download and install the latest version from our website. Follow the wizard to complete the upgrade and enjoy your updated Internet security.

The migration deadline is October 1, 2010, but we strongly recommend you don’t wait until the last minute. Full instructions for upgrade can be found at: http://www.agnitum.com/support/upgradeprotection.php.
