On the road to Outpost 7.5: Updated antimalware engine – version 5.2

As promised last year, we're going to inject some details of the upcoming Outpost 7.5 product line from time to time. Hopefully, these preview articles will boost up your interest to the new solutions!

For starters, let's talk about anti-malware improvements.

By the next edition, Outpost's antivirus engine will get a major upgrade to version 5.2 which gives rise to a significant performance yield! With the introduction of new management and storage functionality for the signature databases, the antimalware module now uses 50% less memory. The updated anti-malware engine delivers even greater detection accuracy by grouping similar virus implementations under a single signature; this reduction in the number of signatures required for effective malware detection also contributes to reduced performance impact. This results in improved scanning speeds and lower resource consumption, up to 20% for certain file types (executable files, scripts, and compressed executable in ZIP/ARJ archives).

The new Controllable Emulator analyzes every executable and compressed file in emulation mode, which imitates in a controlled environment the memory and OS status of the PC as far as possible. This technology is able to combat certain special, hard-to-detect malware with a "fluctuating" signature.

Besides, web content filtration has also achieved solid performance gains turning up to 100 times faster in some aspects. Stay tuned and learn more on this in one of our next "On the road" postings!

Version "Free of Outpost Suite" will get this update?

We're planning to launch the public beta in late Q1 - early Q2.

There are still some new technologies to incorporate that's why the *feature freeze* may happen later than expected.

As for FREE - PRO correlation, there's usually a certain span between the two editions, however, Agnitum strives to deliver version updates for Outpost FREE almost as frequently.

Did Outpost engine based on VirusBuster for Antivirus and Agnitum's own Antimalware engine ?

Ringman, we already have 3 engines and 2 technologies implemented into unite Anti-Malware engine: 1) Anti-Virus engine and databases licensed from VirusBuster, 2) Agnitum's Anti-Spyware engine + databases, 3) Agnitum's HAX engine - heuristic analyzer for exploits, 4) Agnitum's SmartScan technology, 5) Agnitum's SmartDecision technology.

Frankly speaking, this blog post is dedicated only to Anti-Virus engine.
