Six-month summary of SmartDecision activity
Effective preventive blocking of new malware with low false alarms
Dear Outpost Pro 7.5 (7.5.1) – Performance Edition customers! Your decision to protect your PC with Outpost 7.5 was a smart one – thanks to SmartDecision [see whitepaper in PDF, 393 KB].
We’d like to tell you what Agnitum’s ImproveNet internal statistics have told us about the new threats blocked by Outpost’s 7.5 Proactive Protection.
You’re already familiar with SmartDecision’s “Malware” verdict and Outpost’s code-red notification - you could even be one of the thousands of users who anonymously supply our labs with these files for further analysis (for which we thank you!).
A significant percentage of this collection is already available with your malware signature database updates. But here, we are talking about files that are unknown to Outpost Anti-Malware at the time of blocking.
The numbers speak for themselves:

A significant percentage of this collection is already available with your malware signature database updates. But here, we are talking about files that are unknown to Outpost Anti-Malware at the time of blocking.
The numbers speak for themselves:
- 28% of the files were definitely malicious, and their signatures have been added to the malware database,
- 12% were new programs or application versions, most of which were created after cracking or unofficial patching, and only 3% were clean goodware, previously unknown in our lab,
- 60% remain suspicious, so we proceeded with their analysis ONLY after new data had been obtained. About one third of those files turned out to be really malicious, and for the remaining 40% we do not yet have updates for data submitted, because they were unique files are never double-reported (or we did not receive the updates from you).
So far as we can see, the SmartDecision analysis produced only 3% false positive detection, but added signatures for 45%-50% of the files submitted to Outpost Anti-Malware databases.
